Lauren Wallis
Senior Counsellor
Lauren is a counsellor who works with teenagers and adults. Lauren spent many years as a teacher in both primary and secondary schools where she gained a deep understanding of young people’s social, emotional and cognitive development. This spurred her passion for mental health and psychology, leading her to undertake a Master of Counselling at Monash University to gain clinical expertise and include adults in her practice.
A warm, safe and trusting relationship with clients – regardless of their age – is at the heart of Lauren’s practice. She engages a human-centred therapeutic approach, which is built on empathy and unconditional respect for the client. Lauren’s therapeutic style is very gentle, supporting each person to feel at ease to express themselves freely and without judgment.
Each client comes with a unique story, problem, and worldview. In partnership with the client, Lauren tailors the therapy to specifically suit each individual’s needs. She draws on her training in a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and narrative therapy, as well as elements of psychodynamic therapy to deeply understand her clients and identify how problems can be worked on effectively.
When Lauren is not working with clients, she loves gardening, cooking, both creating and appreciating art, and enjoying the company of friends and family. Lauren draws inspiration and energy from the natural environment, which is why the beautiful surroundings of Research make the perfect backdrop for the Yarra Counselling clinic.
